The craft of carving the hard root knob of a bamboo shoot into decorative feet for furniture is on full display in this late 19th century scorched bamboo periodicals / book bin /rack. In this instance the root is carved to resemble Magnolia seed pods. They are not separate pieces but the actual carved root of the bamboo plant used. This excellent example of the English Aesthetic movement is in remarkable 140+ year old condition. Three separate 'bins' or slots to generous enough to hold even large books. PLEASE NOTE: There is one missing bamboo rod as shown. It in no way affects the integrity of the piece or its functionality. Nothing else loose, split, or broken. Joinery is very tight. Shows expected finish aging. Measures 30" high, 17" wide, 11" deep. Made in England.

At the time of this listing we also have on offer the matching corner chair. Please visit our store's home page.
