18th Century Spanish or Portuguese Lacquered Hand Carved Wood Santos (Saint) Sebastian

$495.00

A remarkable piece of Spanish or possibly Portuguese iconography from the 18th century. Hand carved and hand painted santos (saint) icon. Likely St. Sebastian, who often is depicted shirtless and kneeling. Saint Sebastian is the patron saint of archers, athletes, soldiers, and those suffering from plague or other epidemics. He is also considered a protector against these illnesses. Worthy of a museum display and a true rarity in your home or office. Very solid condition showing the expected crackling of paint after approximately 250 years in existence. Measures 14.25" high x 8.5 deep x 4" wide.
